Abstract

The phenomenon of leadership stemmed from the skills and abilities of a leader are led to the ideas of Great man theory and the Traits theory. Over the years the psychology of leadership argued that effective leadership is grounded in leaders' capacity that they share with others. The descriptive research investigates the evolutionary shift of leadership theories from individualistic perspective to environmentalist perspective in the era of democratization of environment and labour rights movements. The research finds that evolution of leadership theories has progressed from an individual-focused approach to recognizing the complex interplay between leaders, followers, and the broader environment. Research endorses that democratization of socio-political environment has corresponding effect upon the enactment of labor rights laws that correspondingly influenced evolution of leadership theories. Labor rights challenged customary concepts of individualistic leadership styles and highlighted need for addressing workers' rights and well-being in organizational contexts. Modern theories acknowledged the dynamic nature of leadership and emphasized the need for leaders to adapt their behaviors, styles, and decision-making processes based on the specific situational and contextual factors they encounter.
